Rainbow Hair DIY Tips: Cool Colors

Rainbow Hair Color DIY Tips: Cool Colors #mermaidhair #bluehair #greenhair #purplehair

Welcome to my portfolio series! I love wild, colorful, unnatural, magical hair colors so much. Here's a roundup of some of my favorite cool rainbow hair color looks - and how to recreate them at home - that I've created for myself and others. Keep scrolling if you love pastel and vivid blue, green, and cool purple hair!

I use a lot of different fashion color lines - usually Manic Panic and Pravana. I've included a few product links throughout that I love to use and would recommend for DIY hair color jobs.

Most of the colors below are straightforward to recreate. However, there are 3 looks that are more in depth and require color blending, so I've recommended hair color product combos for easy reference.

Bonus! Make sure to download your free accompaniment to this post, the Magic Hair Cheat Sheets: Cool Colors Edition, a beautiful hair color guide book I created for fellow rainbow hair fiends. It includes all of the tips and products listed in this post, and then some!

Some of these links are affiliate links and if you choose to buy any, I'll make a commission at no extra cost to you - if so, thank you for supporting my blog!

Vivid Colormelt Tip: When creating dark-to-light colormelts, apply the lightest color first, then your midtone - in this case the Teal Turquoise duo - to the hair. Saturate your hair really thoroughly! And then apply the darkest color to the root. When you rinse, hold the lengths of your hair out of the water as much as possible, then rinse the roots first so they don't transfer to the lighter ends.

DIY Cool Hair Color Tip: If you've started lightening your hair so you can do a cool pastel, but it's still a little too yellow to pull it off, try green! Shades of green - like this chartreuse above, or even darker greens or blue-greens, are a great place to start. This is because all greens are made up of blue and yellow, so the pre-existing yellow in your hair will actually work in your favor.
